There is a long list of things to love about living in downtown Winnipeg. Easy access to extraordinary food from around the world has to be near the top of that list. When it's time to eat, the world awaits you – right outside your door. Here is the shortlist of the best takeout in downtown Winnipeg.

Greenish Sushi

When you want fresh sushi, poke or Korean food, at reasonable prices, it's nice to know that Greenish Sushi (350 Portage Ave) is only a 5-minute walk from home at The Arts Residences. You really can't go wrong with their poke bowl ($14.25) topped with your choice of protein like BBQ Pork, BBQ Eel, fried tofu, torched salmon, torched tuna and more. For those days when even a 5-minute walk feels like too much, you can get Greenish delivered through DoorDash or Skip The Dishes.

Stella's @ PlugIn

The Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is located in the Buhler building at 460 Portage Ave, right around the corner from The Arts Residences. When you've worked up an appetite taking in all the great works, don't miss out on one of the gallery's real gems – Stella's @ PlugIn Cafe and Bakery was voted "best breakfast in the city." Their Grand Veg breakfast ($12.95) features two eggs, three breakfast patties, avocado, vegetarian baked beans, sautéed mushrooms and hash browns. They do great burgers, curries, pasta and sandwiches, too – Guacamole B.L.T ($15.45) anyone?

Banh Mi King

Banh Mi King (510 Portage Ave) serves up more than beautiful Banh Mi sandwiches. This vegan and vegetarian-friendly spot also does a great Pork Belly Baoger (hot bun) for $6.89, a super satisfying Lemongrass Beef noodle salad bowl ($10.49) and Fried Chicken Poutine ($8.49).

VJ's Drive Inn

When only a burger will do, it's nice to know that VJ's Drive Inn (170 Main Street) is only a five-minute drive from home. VJ's isn't trying to impress anyone with their ambience. This old-school, take-out-only, cash-only burger joint is only interested in elevating the art of the greasy spoon to greatness. VJ's Special burger is the go-to option. The subtle crispiness of the patty and their secret chilli sauce make it a unique treat. Their fresh-cut fries are arguably the best in the city, and if you can find a better Key Lime milkshake anywhere, we'd love to hear about it!

We hope this list of the best takeout in downtown Winnipeg keeps you coming back for more.

When you're ready to live life in the heart of it all, the spacious modern suites of The Arts Residences at 233 Kennedy Street are ready to welcome you home.
